In 1971, when Ram Lal Anand College (Evening) (the earlier avatar of Aryabhatta College) was established, it started with BA Pass and B Com Programmes. The Department of Political Science was then, the mainstay of the BA Programme. Over the time, given the growing popularity of Political Science, the College introduced BA Hons in Political Science in 1991. Since then, the Department has grown in faculty strength and has been successfully running the BA Honors Course and the BA program course. The Department takes pride with all humility in the fact that its students have been university rank holders for several years. Many of the alumni are pursuing careers in higher education, media, civil services, the social sector, and law. The Department got a chance to further grow and shine when Aryabhatta College was instituted in 2015 as a day college. It also benefited immensely from the infusion of young, dynamic, and talented faculty members in 2015.

Today, our department is counted as one of the much sought-after Departments in the University. A large number of students from different parts of the country and also foreign students on an exchange program are studying here. The Department believes in providing value-added education to students going beyond classroom and syllabus to prepare the students for pursuing a career in research, policy-making, administration, and media. Towards this end, the Department organizes seminars, and workshops regularly invite leaders from various fields to provide motivation and perspective to students. Besides, the Department encourages students, to take up internships with think tanks, professors, political party offices. The Department has a vibrant student’s body engaged in organizing co-curricular and extra-curricular activities meant to bring out the best in students and help foster their personality development. There is special care for students in any kind of need or difficulty through the students’ mentoring system. The Department seeks to promote the values of academic excellence, a spirit of inquiry, fearlessness through knowledge, and service to the nation among our students, even as it prepares them for meaningful careers and vocations in life.
