Library


The Aryabhatta College Library was established in 1973 to serve the academic and information needs of the users of Ramlal Anand College (Evening) which was renamed as Aryabhatta College in 2015. The college library occupies a two storied complex adjacent to the Taregana Block of the College. It is a user focused centre of learning resources that meets the academic and research needs. The library is automated using Integrated Library Management System ‘SOUL’ (Software for University Library) developed by INFLIBNET. The library acquired and installed SOUL software in the year 2004 and was able to automate its operations by 2006 after creation of a database of all books and library services. Currently the library is using SOUL 3.0 Version. It comprises of an efficient OPAC (Open Access Public Catalogue) module which allows users to check the status of availability of books in the library. The library has a Reading Room with the seating capacity of 60 students and a collection of more than 53924 books on Commerce, Hindi, English, Psychology, Management Sciences, Political Science, History and Computer Science. It has subscription of 20 periodicals/magazines (national and international) and 13 Newspapers (print form) in Hindi and English languages. The library provides access to a database of 98000 e-books and approximately 10000 e-journals through NLIST subscription. In addition to the NLIST facility the users can utilize the e-resources accessible through DULS (Delhi University Library System) through College Network and Remote Login facility. 


The library holds subscription to Sugamya Pustakalaya for providing better access to visually impaired students along with the NVDA Software. The library also has Kibo software for converting printed text material into audio books for visually impaired readers.


It has an e-resource section wherein students and faculty members can have access to varied e-resources maintained by the library. Campus Web (OPAC) service is available. The OPAC machine is also installed in the library to ensure easy access to books. 


The library has a dedicated space for maintaining the M.Phil & PhD thesis of faculty members as well as a collection of research publications and books authored by faculty members for access to students and faculty alike. 


The library keeps record of the debates and discussions participated by faculty members on digital platforms. 


To bring students closer to art, culture and history, the library has a wall of fame that showcases eminent personalities from diverse fields.


The library is equipped with newspaper stands for ease and comfort of reading. It also has provision for filtered drinking water. It is well equipped with fire extinguishers for safety. A suggestion box is also put up outside the library to welcome inputs and suggestions on library matters and to cater to the expectations of students and improve its functioning. 



College Library: Working Hours

The Library remains open on all working days from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. except (Sunday (s), Saturday (s) and other gazetted holidays).

Membership

Membership is granted to all the benefited students of the college for one year only. The students who are promoted to the second/ third year are required to get the fresh membership for the new academic session.

Loss of Library Membership Card

(i) The loss of books must immediately be reported in writing to the librarian.The members must replace the book/s with in 15 days of the date of loss of book’s reported. In case the book/s is/are of the volumes of the set, the entire set has to be replaced.
(ii) in case of loss of a book, which is out of print, the member shall bring the relevant certificate from the distributor/Book sellers. If publisher is local, then from the publisher about the non availability of the book


Overdue Charges

Over due charges of Rs. 1/- per day shall be charged in case the book (s) is not returned on the due date. Over due charges are collected through ‘Conscience Box’ method and no receipt is for it. Besides this overdue charges, the membership card may be withheld for one week if the book (s) is/are not returned within 30 days of the due date.


Reminders

If a member does not return a book (s) after three reminders, the matter will ne referred to the principal.


No Dues Certificate

A no Dues Certificate will be signed by the Librarian to the members, on the prescribed form obtainable from the library for issuance of Admission Ticket for University Examination.


Breach of Library Rules

As the college library is a place of individual study, it is necessary to maintain an atmosphere of quiet and dignity inside the library. Talking and Smoking are strictly prohibited in the library. Any student, whose act or behavior is considered undesirable by the librarian, may be refused admission to the library.


Care of Books/ documents

Library books are costly and often rare. They should be used and handled with care. Members shall not write upon, damage, tear down the leaves or make a mark upon nay book.Before leaving the Library circulation counter, the matter must satisfy themselves whether the book lent to him/her, is in sound condition. If not, he/she shall immediately bring the matter to the notice of the librarian / library staff. Otherwise member shall be held responsible for nay damage noticed/reported later or at the time of returning the books. A member shall be responsible for any loss or damage o the books or other document belonging to the library while under his/her use and shall be required to replace such books or documents. Penalty for book lost, damaged, mutilted or defaced by marking, shall be fixed by the Librarian.


Change of Address

Any change in the residential address of any member may be intimating in writing to the librarian.


Book Bank

The members, who are economically backward, may avail the book bank facility. Maximum three books are issued to the member of the entire session. A separate notice is given for book bank issue indicating the period in which this facility may be used by the members.


Open Access

The members have the privilege of direct access to shelves in the stack hall. It is important, that the arrangement of books is maintained on the shelves for the convenience of the members themselves. The books can be freely taken out but on no account the books should be re-shelved by the members because of the danger of their misplacement.
